Visiting Parma and Eating Parmesan Cheese

Parma was our next stop as we traveled from Bologna to Pavia!

I cannot believe I agreed to stop in a town known for it's (Parmesan) cheese!  In case you don't know, I hate cheese.  But I do love prosciutto (Italian dry-cured ham) which is also made there, so I agreed :)

It turns out this beautiful town as more than just great ham and cheese!

The Parma Cathedral, with it's immense campanile, and the Baptistery dominate the Piazza del Duomo in the center of the historic old town.

The Parma Cathedral is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and is considered one of the finest examples of a Romanesque Cathedral in Italy.  It is particular known for its fantastic interior frescos.

The main Baptistery of Parma is very impressive.  Both the exterior and interior are stunning!  The interior is covered with detailed frescos and marble statues and the ceiling has a gorgeous painting depicting different religious figures.

We also visited the rather small Diocesan Museum of Parma located in the Bishop's Palace, in Piazza Duomo -- and the kids all loved it!

Then we headed to lunch!  Lots of parmesan cheese and prosciutto!

Clare was sad she didn't get her coffee (which just means Espresso)!
