Up, Up, Up on the Schafberg Railway!

Last Sunday we rode the steepest, steam cog-railway in Austria!

With some of our Kartause friends, we drove about 2 hours away to St. Wolgang.  After a picnic lunch and exploring the little town of St. Wolgang, we rode on the railway car up to the top of the 1,783 m tall Schafberg Mountain.  It was about 35 minutes to the top.  The train has been ascending the mountain from St. Wolfgang since 1893.

The views from the top were stunning!  I can definitely see why it's called one of Austria's most beautiful and scenic mountains.  We had a 360 degree panoramic view over the glittering lakes of the Salzkammergut (eg, Lakes Wolfgangsee, Irrsee, Mondsee and Fuschlsee) to Lake Chiemsee in Germnay in the foothills of the Alps.  And we could see the majestically-soaring mountains (from the Hollengebirge range over the Dachstein Mountains to the Watzmann Mountain).

What a wonderful day taking in God's beautiful creation and good times with our friends!
