Not sure what you thought this blog post was going to be about... but it's about our new found interests in bird watching and gardening during the coronavirus panademic!
Coronavirus update... Today (May 2) officially marks the re-opening of all shops (though you still must wear a mask and keep a 1 meter distance) and as of yesterday we're free to leave our house and meet up in groups of 10! Ellie will begin school again the week of May 18. The elementary school children will attend school 3 days the first week and two days the second week, they will alternate so that only half of the class is there each school day. School goes until July 3. Francis will not return to kindergarten (pre-school) this school year. You can read this news article on the "new normal" guidelines for Austria here.

Bird watching... the kids love Berenstain Bears and "the cubs" love to bird watch, so now so do ours. We got a book on bird watching and the kids have enjoyed learning the birds names. The book includes swans and ducks, so we headed down to the "Beer Well" pond to see them! And Brian found bird house kits online... Ellie and Francis painted their own and we hung them up outside our windows... not sure if any birds have checked them out yet!
Gardening... Brian has been growing plants (legal ones) in our basement for a few weeks and he and the kids transferred them over to a plot of land next to the intramural field. We also planted pelargonien (geraniums) in our window boxes - a very Austrian thing to do. So we'll see if we get these plants/flowers to grow! We know the slugs like the plants and the bees like the flowers :)
Hope you're all staying healthy & enjoying the great outdoors!
