We had a lovely Saturday afternoon in the town of Waidhofen an der Ybbs!
Waidhofen is about 30 minutes from Gaming. We had a wonderful time in the town center - touring the 5-element museum connected to Rothschild Castle. The castle dates from the Middle Ages (but was renovated in 1885-87). We got to climb the castle tower, which was previously used as a torture chamber. We enjoyed a wonderful view of the town from the top!
The kids loved playing at the playground right outside of the castle and church (which has perpetual adoration). And then we enjoyed a lovely dinner of the kids' favorite Austrian dishes - Rindsuppe mit Frittaten (beef broth soup with sliced crepes) and Wiener Schnitzel mit Pommes Frites - right outside the castle.
I don't know if the kids can really appreciate that they spend their days playing by castles (they're much more intrigued by seeing how many people can fit down the slide at once)... but I'm sure loving it! :)
