The Arrival of Fall '19

The arrival of Fall in Gaming is a beautiful one!

We spent many days picking Ellie up from school on foot (and stroller)!

Ellie's school day begins with the first bell at 7:15am.  She must arrive a few minutes before that to hang up her coat and change into her school shoes in the lower level of the school.  Our neighbors drive her to school most days - which is a huge help for us as we have to get Francis on the school bus at 7:24am and are juggling a toddler and infant :)

Ellie ends schools at 11:10am each day, except for Mondays when she's stays until 1pm for choir.  She is given 30 minutes of homework each day, which she is still enjoying doing!  On Tuesdays, she returns to school in the afternoon for a private half-an-hour piano lesson.  During the week she also takes swimming lessons, singing lessons, and a dance class with some of the FUS students and our neighbors!

With Isaac on his back, Brian led the FUS students on a 7 hour hike to Mariazell, a Marian shrine containing a miraculous statue of Mary.  The other 3 kids and I met up with them at the shrine, traveling by car (45 minute drive from our house) for ice cream and Mass.

Clare's first time to Mariazell and first time wearing a homemade sweater from her Aunt Maureen :)

Isaac moved into Ellie and Francis' room this month!  The transition went very smoothly.  Ellie and Francis are in bunk beds; Isaac is still in his pack n play but will move to the toddler bed at some point!

Clare started taking a bottle on occasion - which prompted Isaac to want to feed his baby by bottle as well!  Watching him 'pump milk' for his baby just like mama is quite the sight (but not captured on camera ;)

The kids all enjoyed getting a care package from Grandma & Grandpa Kissinger - including saint books, prayer cards, and fruit roll-ups!

Ellie and Francis ran in the kids' race supporting the LCI!

It's been a busy, full Fall :)

Schule & Kindergarten Beginnen

Ellie and Francis are off to school!

Ellie started at Schule - 1st grade - here in Gaming!

Francis started his second year of Kindergarten- his first time going without Ellie - in the neighboring town of Kienberg!

Everyone is happy! :)

Francis takes the bus to school!

Ellie’s first day she met her teacher, saw her classroom (and chose her seat - front row) & attended an all school church service at the Parish church just down the road from school (although it’s public school, the country’s religion is Catholic & the kids have Catholic religion class twice a week - taught by one of Franciscan’s professors/our new neighbor :)

Ellie presented with her Schultüte!  Schultüte means “school cone” and is filled with candy and toys, given to children on their first day of school upon entering first grade. The cone is given to children to make the anxiously awaited first day a “little sweeter!”  Ellie’s only disappointment was that she didn’t receive homework on the first day. Later in the week I  asked her what her favorite part of school was and she replied, “homework!”

The school is a 20 minute walk from our home. Ellie walked to school with Brian twice this week and walked home everyday with me and her friend (and Isaac & Clare)!

At home there was a lot of action as well as we got bunk beds, our winter supply of firewood, and Clare turned one month old!!
